AtlantaPFS Weekly Update
🎲 August 16 – August 22 — Welcome Back, Pathfinders!
Good news: posting is back up on the Appalachian Region Hub after our hosting migration, so the full regional roundup and six-state schedule are back on their own site this week — check out this week’s Appalachian Region Hub update for all of that. Here at home, physical games are back on the AtlantaPFS calendar, and WVPopCon is next weekend!
🚨 We Need Officers — Badly
We’re going to be blunt: AtlantaPFS and the Appalachian Region are short on Venture-Officers right now, and it’s starting to show. Titan Games & Comics and Battle & Brew still have no dedicated VA. Without enough officers, scheduling gets erratic and sporadic as the officers we do have get overtaxed trying to cover more ground than they reasonably can, and in the worst case we end up having to scale back our footprint. It’s not just weekly venues, either — the same shortage limits how many conventions and acquisition events we’re able to staff. Chattanooga cannot get active again without at least one officer stepping up, and Charleston, WV is a possible new-lodge expansion we’re exploring so Morgantown and Vienna’s officers aren’t stretched too thin. None of these roles require deep expertise — they need someone willing to show up, keep a searchable public presence (a Warhorn page is one option, but not the only one), and be a friendly face. If that’s you, please reach out. Full details are in the Volunteer Opportunities section below — but don’t wait for that, email joel@atlantapfs.org or fill out the Volunteer Form today.
🐉 DragonCon 2026 — Still Waiting on the Ticket Site
September 3–7, 2026 — Labor Day Weekend, Atlanta, GA
Our schedule was submitted to DragonCon leadership on time, with updates finalized in the days after — but the schedule and pre-sale ticket information haven’t been published on DragonCon’s end yet. Coordinating gaming schedules across a convention this size takes time on their side, and we’re just waiting on that final step. As soon as tickets go live, we’ll get the word out everywhere — Discord, both websites, and directly to our volunteers. Thank you for your patience; we know the waiting is hard when you’re excited for the biggest weekend of the year.
🎉 WVPopCon Is Next Weekend!
August 22–23, 2026 — Mylan Park, Morgantown, WV
The Morgantown lodge is bringing Pathfinder and Starfinder Society to WVPopCon next weekend — their second convention appearance in as many months, right on the heels of CharCon. If you’re anywhere near North-Central West Virginia, come out and support them! And if you’re local and available to help run games or staff the table, reach out to Joel H or email rvcapparegionop@gmail.com — every extra set of hands helps. More at wvpop.com.
🎲 Gen Con 2026 Recap
🎤 What Paizo Announced at Gen Con
Gen Con wrapped up a couple weeks ago, and Paizo used its keynote to unveil a genuinely huge slate of upcoming products. No Organized Play changes were part of the keynote itself — this is all about what’s coming to your shelf (and table). If you missed it, here’s the recap:
Debuting at Gen Con
- 13 Omens — an all-new, rules-light horror storytelling game from Paizo, played with six-sided dice. Full launch is October 13. More at 13omens.com.
- Impossible Magic — a new Pathfinder sourcebook debuting at the Paizo booth, featuring four classes (Summoner, Magus, Necromancer, Runesmith), 240+ spells including new “impossible spells,” archetypes, arcane schools, and items.
- Bastion of Blasphemies — a horror-themed Pathfinder Adventure Path for levels 5–13, set in a haunted castle that’s been part of Golarion lore since the beginning, with ties to the Beginner Box.
- Absalom Station: Center of the Galaxy — a Starfinder deep dive into Absalom Station, with new districts, NPCs, rules, archetypes, ancestries, and a poster map.
- Assault at Absalom Station — a new Starfinder novel and sequel to last year’s story.
- Pathfinder Dice Gods — a dice-drafting game getting its pre-release at Gen Con ahead of an official September launch.
Coming This Fall (Sept–Nov 2026)
- The Dead God’s Hand — a Pathfinder adventure (levels 1–7) with deep Aroden lore.
- Cheliax: Infernal Inheritance — a new Lost Omens book in October, following up on the Hellfire Crisis.
- Feybound — a Pathfinder rulebook in November centered on the Yestereve Revels, with new fey ancestries, a First World gazetteer, and fey/fairytale-inspired creatures and items.
- The Vaultlines — a Darklands-themed Adventure Path (levels 11–20) also arriving in November.
- Secrets of the Swarm — a Starfinder Adventure Path (levels 6–10) in September, callback to a 1st-edition interactive special, with six new ancestries.
- Starfinder Tech Core — finally arriving in October, with all-new tactical starship combat, two refined classes (Technomancer and Mechanic), and more ancestries.
- Paizo Printables Season 2 — the next wave of 3D-printable miniature STLs, including Lovecraftian horror designs.
Looking Ahead to 2027
The keynote also previewed a packed 2027, including Lost Omens: Sagalands (May, a return to Varisia, Irrisen, and the Lands of the Linnorm Kings), Invaders from the Dark (June, a Golarion alien-invasion Adventure Path built to showcase Pathfinder/Starfinder compatibility — yes, there’s a hoverbike), a Starfinder Beginner Box (May), and Pathfinder Tome of Dungeons at Gen Con 2027, introducing two new classes (Daredevil and Slayer) and two new ancestries (Awakened Ooze and Gargoyle).
Check out Paizo’s Gen Con blog for booth details and deals, or catch the full keynote video here.
📋 Organized Play Rule Updates (Published July 16)
Separate from the keynote, Paizo published a rule-update blog laying out “Program Alignment” changes that took effect with the July 30 launch of Pathfinder Society Year 8 and Starfinder Society Season 2 — these directly affect how we run tables:
- Pathfinder Society: scenarios (and eventually other sanctioned adventures) become repeatable for different characters. New characters can start at 1st, 3rd, 5th, or 7th level, with more flexibility for how pregen credit gets applied. Pathfinder Provisions is going away, replaced by a bespoke kit of consumables handed out at mission briefing and returned afterward. Monster stat blocks from other sourcebooks are coming back in a combined appendix.
- Starfinder Society: Slow Track advancement is being added, letting players opt into half credit on a scenario-by-scenario basis. GM ranks are also arriving, called Nebulas, mirroring Glyphs and Stars.
Read the full rundown on Paizo’s blog.
📰 August Organized Play Monthly Update
Nothing dramatic out of Paizo this week — just their regular monthly Organized Play roundup. A few highlights:
- New sanctioning: Lost Omens: High Seas and Impossible Magic are now sanctioned for Pathfinder Society, the new Bastion of Blasphemies Adventure Path is sanctioned for PFS play, and Starfinder Society tables can now use options from Absalom Station: Center of the Galaxy.
- New scenarios release September 2: Pathfinder Society #8-05 A Shark’s Guide to Piracy and #8-06 Falling Sparks; Starfinder Society #2-05 File Corrupted and #2-06 An Inside Job.
- GM recognition: eleven GMs across the community reached their fifth rank this month, and one GM received a Campaign Service Coin for exceptional community contributions. If you know someone locally who’s going above and beyond, you can nominate them for a Campaign Coin by emailing organizedplay@paizo.com.
- And yes — both Pathfinder and Starfinder Society characters can now recruit Jimothy as an animal companion, if that’s your kind of thing.
Full details on Paizo’s blog.
🎮 An Update on Playthrough 2026
Passed along from the Raleigh lodge: Playthrough, the developer-focused gaming showcase some of our members have attended, won’t be running in 2026. The organizers say it’s a small team working around day jobs and family life, and one of their own families just welcomed a new baby — so rather than rush out another show before they’re ready, they’re taking the year to make the next one better. They’re not going anywhere: they’re inviting the community to keep hanging out and discovering new games together on their Discord in the meantime, and they’re asking for feedback on what makes the show worth attending. They’re aiming to be back in 2027.
📢 Current Announcements & Updates
🙏 A Quick Apology, Still in Effect
We’re still working to get our Warhorn postings back to a full two-week lead time for sign-ups. We know short notice makes it harder to plan around work and family, and we appreciate your patience while we tighten up our internal process. Thank you for continuing to jump in when you’re able.
📍 New Venue: Level-Up Games (Buford)!
We’re excited to welcome a brand-new venue to the AtlantaPFS family: Level-Up Games in Buford. This is a genuinely new location for both AtlantaPFS and Level-Up itself — Level-Up relocated from their old Duluth location (where we used to have coverage) out to Buford, so this is new ground for everyone. Jamey D is stepping up as Venture-Agent for the new location. Welcome, Jamey, and welcome, Level-Up Buford!
With Jamey’s move to Buford, Steve H is covering Johns Creek on an interim basis in addition to his regular Dawsonville duties — and the good news is, it’s working: Johns Creek has a game on the books this week. Still, ad hoc coverage isn’t a permanent fix — see the volunteer call below if you’d like to help take that load off Steve long-term.
🏆 Hall of Heroes
Visit our Hall of Heroes page to honor those we’ve lost from our gaming community.
🎬 Rocky Horror Picture Show Night – Poll Still Open!
We’re still collecting availability for our AtlantaPFS outing to The Rocky Horror Picture Show at The Plaza Theatre on Ponce de Leon Avenue. If you haven’t filled out the poll yet, please do — more responses means a better date for everyone. We’re personally leaning toward October once the dust from DragonCon has settled, but all input is welcome.
WhenIsGood: AtlantaPFS Invades the Rocky Horror Picture Show
This social event is open to the wider GeorgiaPFS and Appalachian Region community. Costumes and callbacks are strongly encouraged.
📈 AtlantaPFS Growth Snapshot: Q2 vs. Q1 2026
We can’t publicly share raw table or player counts (those fall under our officer NDA with Paizo), but percentage trends are fair game — and they tell a good story about where AtlantaPFS is headed. These figures cover retail, virtual, and acquisition events only — larger conventions are reported directly to Paizo and aren’t included here. Comparing Q2 to Q1 (Q3 is still too new to include):
| Category | Q1 → Q2 Change |
|---|---|
| Retail PFS2 Sessions | ▲ +31% |
| Retail SFS2 Sessions | ▼ -80% |
| Retail SFS1 Sessions | New this quarter |
| Unique GMs | ▲ +8% |
| Unique Players | ▼ -23% |
| New Players | ▼ -100% |
PFS2 tables and our GM roster both grew this quarter. That -80% on SFS2, though — that’s a real drop, and it’s worth calling out plainly: if you’re a GM sitting on a Starfinder scenario you haven’t run in a while, this is your sign. We’d love to see that number turn around next quarter. New-player numbers also pulled back hard, which is worth keeping an eye on — if you know someone thinking about trying Society play for the first time, now’s a great time to bring them out.
📍 Physical Games Are Back on the Calendar!
After an all-virtual week last time, AtlantaPFS has games at four different physical venues this week — Titan Games & Comics, Level-Up Games (Johns Creek), Battle & Brew, and Level-Up Games (Dawsonville) — plus our usual Fantasy Grounds Unity slots. See the full schedule below.
🌄 Regional Roundup – Appalachian Region News
Urgent: Venture-Officer Opening in Chattanooga, TN
We’re restarting our search for a Venture-Officer in the Chattanooga area — our previous lead there didn’t end up working out. To be direct about it: this lodge cannot become active again without at least one officer stepping up. Chattanooga relaunched in 2025 and just needs someone consistent to build on that momentum. If that’s you, or you know someone who’d be great at it, reach out through the GeorgiaPFS Discord or at rvcapparegionop@gmail.com.
🎲 Columbus Lodge Still Gearing Up
Columbus continues preparing to get games back on the calendar at Moxie Games. Keep an eye on their Warhorn page over the coming weeks, and if you’d like to help build momentum, reach out to Dennis B or through the GeorgiaPFS Discord.
🎉 WVPopCon Next Weekend
Morgantown’s next convention appearance — see the push above for details.
Venture-Officer Opening: Charleston, WV — A Possible New Lodge
We’re exploring the possibility of a new lodge in Charleston, WV. The idea grew out of things like CharCon showing there’s real interest in the Charleston area, plus wanting to avoid stretching Morgantown and Vienna’s officers too thin if Charleston turns out to be too far a drive for them to cover reliably. Interested in being the person who builds it? Reach out through the GeorgiaPFS Discord or at rvcapparegionop@gmail.com.
We Need Players and GMs — Especially Here
A few lodges are in particular need of additional support right now:
- Mebane, NC – Tables are running but could use more consistent turnout and GMing support.
- Charlotte, NC – A major metro area that deserves more organized play presence.
- Memphis, TN – Western Tennessee organized play needs both players and GMs to stay visible.
- Nashville, TN – Strong potential, needs more regular GM support to grow the schedule.
- Morgantown, WV – Riding high ahead of WVPopCon this weekend, this lodge could use more regular GMs and players at Wyvern’s Wargames.

🤝🚨 Volunteer Opportunities — We’re Dying for Officers
Every one of these is an open, unfilled role right now.
Interested in helping AtlantaPFS grow and thrive? We’re always looking for dedicated volunteers to GM, coordinate venues, assist with conventions, and more — but right now, officer coverage is genuinely thin. Here’s where we need you most:
🔴 Highest Priority: Venue & Lodge Coverage
Without enough officers, scheduling gets erratic and sporadic as the officers we do have get overtaxed trying to cover more ground than they reasonably can — and in the worst case, we end up having to scale back our footprint. It’s not just weekly venues, either: the same shortage limits how many conventions and acquisition events we’re able to staff.
- Titan Games & Comics (Smyrna): No VA currently assigned — even though a game is running there this week thanks to ad hoc coverage.
- Battle & Brew (Sandy Springs): No VA currently assigned.
- Level-Up Games (Johns Creek): Steve H is covering it on top of Dawsonville for now, but that’s not sustainable long-term.
- Chattanooga, TN: This lodge cannot get active again without at least one officer stepping up — see Regional Roundup above.
- Charleston, WV: A possible new-lodge expansion we’re exploring, so Morgantown and Vienna’s officers aren’t stretched too thin — see Regional Roundup above.
🟡 Convention Volunteers
- WVPopCon (August 22–23): Next weekend! Reach out to Joel H if you’re near Morgantown and can help.
- LUGCon (October 1–4): We’re gearing up to support LUGCon again this fall. Reach out to Steve H if you’d like to help.
- Multiverse (October 16–18): We’re planning to be at Multiverse again this year and need volunteers. Reach out to joel@atlantapfs.org if interested.
- Anime Weekend Atlanta (November 19–22): Planning is underway for our AWA presence. Reach out to James R if you’d like to help.
🟢 GMs and Players
Especially needed in Mebane NC, Charlotte NC, Memphis TN, and Nashville TN.
Don’t wait to be asked — reach out today. Fill out our Volunteer Form, or email joel@atlantapfs.org directly. Learn more about what Venture-Officer roles actually involve in the VO Handbook — most of it is showing up and caring, not deep expertise.
📅 AtlantaPFS Weekly Game Schedule August 16 – August 22, 2026

🎲 Until Next Week, Pathfinders!
Physical games are back on the AtlantaPFS calendar this week, WVPopCon is next weekend, DragonCon’s schedule is still pending on their end, and we are, without exaggeration, dying for more officers across the region. If you’ve been on the fence about stepping up, this is your sign.
Watch the GeorgiaPFS Discord and the Warhorn agenda for additions and changes throughout the week. Roll well, friends — we’ll see you out there. ⚔️🎲
