AtlantaPFS Weekly Update
π² July 19 β 25 β Welcome Back, Pathfinders!
It’s been a busy week on the Paizo front, with two significant blog posts you’ll want to know about β one on the Archives of Nethys, one on next season’s rules. Details below. Congratulations again to Morgantown on their CharCon debut, and there’s an early invite already on the table for their next convention appearance.
But first, the thing we need to say plainly: DragonCon is in real trouble, and we are almost out of time to fix it. Please read the next section before anything else.
π THIS IS THE WEEK. WE NEED YOU RIGHT NOW.
We are still on pace to cancel roughly 60% of everything we had planned for DragonCon 2026. Not next year β this September, Labor Day weekend. Our roster has to be in DragonCon leadership’s hands in under two weeks, and every day that passes without new sign-ups locks in more cancellations for good.
This isn’t a “when you get a chance” ask. It’s a “please stop and do this right now, before you close this email” ask. A five-minute form is the difference between a table happening and a table getting cut.
π Sign Up Now β Not Tomorrow, Now ππ¨ Big Week for Paizo News β Two Blogs You Need to Read
π£ Archives of Nethys License Has Ended
Both Paizo and Archives of Nethys have now published their own statements confirming that AoN’s eight-year licensed partnership with Paizo ends July 24. AoN says Paizo notified them a few weeks ago and pointed to a lack of royalties as the reason; Paizo’s own post adds that the licensing relationship had also become a legal and administrative burden, particularly around outside sites misusing the licensed artwork. Either way, Archives of Nethys is not going away β it will keep running under Paizo’s Community Use Policy β but AoN has laid out some real practical changes taking effect July 24: most of its non-iconic artwork is coming down (only CUP-compliant art like the iconics and religious symbols can stay), the legacy PRD mirror at legacy.aonprd.com is being retired, and early access to new books ends after the currently-in-the-pipeline releases (Bastion of Blasphemies, Dead God’s Hand, and Secrets of the Swarm) β so future content won’t hit the site on street date the way it has for years.
Worth reading both sides directly: Paizo’s blog post and Archives of Nethys’s own statement.
π£ Organized Play Rule Updates β Summer 2026
Paizo also dropped this year’s annual rules-change blog early, ahead of the new program year launching in August. The headline is alignment: Pathfinder Society and Starfinder Society are moving toward sharing more of the same rules. Highlights for Pathfinder Society: scenarios, Quests, and Bounties become fully repeatable (different character each time); new characters can start at 1st, 3rd, 5th, or 7th level; Pathfinder Provisions are being replaced with bespoke consumables handed out per-mission; monster stat blocks are coming back in a combined appendix. For Starfinder Society: slow track advancement is being added, and a new GM rank system called Nebulas is coming (with the 5th-Nebula milestone deliberately kept low-key so nobody burns out chasing it).
Full details are in the Organized Play Rule Updates blog, with the complete ruleset landing on the Lorespire Wiki before Gen Con.
π’ Current Announcements & Updates
π A Quick Apology
Several games have gone up on our Warhorn recently without our usual two-week lead time for players to sign up. That’s on us, not you β we know it makes it harder to plan around work and family schedules, and we’re actively tightening up our internal posting process so this stops happening. Thank you for your patience, and for signing up on short notice when you’re able to.
π₯οΈ Fantasy Grounds Unity: Scheduled All the Way Through November
Quick reminder for our VTT players: the Starfinder Society Fantasy Grounds Unity schedule runs through Season 2, Scenario 5 β a full slate of games all the way through November.
Seats are filling up quickly. If you’ve been meaning to jump in, now is the time to grab a spot before the good slots are gone. Sign-ups for FGU games specifically are on Warhorn here.
π Atlanta Lodge Virtual Games β Update
Fantasy Grounds Starfinder Society games are in full swing on a real, ongoing schedule (see above), and we’ve also got a Foundry-run Starfinder scenario on the books this week (see schedule below).
If you were playing in one of the Atlanta-run virtual games that wrapped up last month, the official Organized Play Online Region is a great place to keep playing: temp Discord invite here. Questions, reach out to James R.
π DragonCon β We Are Not Exaggerating
π DragonCon 2026 β Under Two Weeks, Still at Risk of Losing 60%
DragonCon 2026: September 3β7, 2026 β Labor Day Weekend, Atlanta, GA
We are still projected to cancel roughly 60% of what we planned to run at DragonCon this year. That number has not moved this week. Our volunteer roster is due to DragonCon leadership in under two weeks, and once that roster is submitted, the slots that aren’t filled are gone β including the Battle of Hellknight Hill cinematic run.
We need bodies. Not next week. Not “when things calm down.” Now.
- GMs β for regular scenarios, the Battle of Hellknight Hill special, and everything in between
- HQ Staff β the backbone of the operation; without you, nothing else works
- Anyone who can give even one or two slots β every single commitment saves a table from being cut

ποΈ In Memoriam: Lee McLurkin
We continue to hold space for the memory of Lee McLurkin, whose loss touched so many in our community. A fitting tribute is being prepared for DragonCon later this year, and a memorial will be added to our Hall of Heroes once complete. Our thoughts remain with his family and all who knew him.
π Hall of Heroes
Visit our Hall of Heroes page to honor those we’ve lost from our gaming community.
π¬ Rocky Horror Picture Show Night β Poll Still Open!
We’re still collecting availability for our AtlantaPFS outing to The Rocky Horror Picture Show at The Plaza Theatre on Ponce de Leon Avenue. If you haven’t filled out the poll yet, please do β more responses means a better date for everyone. We’re personally leaning toward October once the dust from DragonCon has settled, but all input is welcome.
WhenIsGood: AtlantaPFS Invades the Rocky Horror Picture Show
This social event is open to the wider GeorgiaPFS and Appalachian Region community. Costumes and callbacks are strongly encouraged.

π² Columbus Lodge Getting Back on Its Feet
Good news out of Columbus: after a quiet stretch following some player relocations, Dennis B and the Columbus lodge are gearing up to start scheduling games again soon at Moxie Games. If you’re in the Columbus, GA area and have been missing your local table, keep an eye on their Warhorn page over the coming weeks β and if you’d like to help build momentum as they restart, reach out to Dennis B or through the GeorgiaPFS Discord.
π Congratulations Again, Morgantown β And a New Invite Already!
Fresh off wrapping up their first-ever convention appearance at CharCon, the Morgantown, WV lodge has already been invited to bring organized play to WVPopCon, happening August 22β23 at Mylan Park in Morgantown. Two conventions in two months is a huge step for a young lodge. The lodge could still use more regular GMs and players at its home venue, Wyvern’s Wargames, going forward. Reach out to Joel H or through the GeorgiaPFS Discord if you can help.
Urgent: Venture-Officer Opening in Charleston, WV
We are still actively recruiting to establish a brand-new lodge in the Charleston, WV area. Help build something new and be the reason a whole community of players finds organized play. Interested? Reach out through the GeorgiaPFS Discord or at rvcapparegionop@gmail.com.
π GalaxyCon Raleigh β Movement at Last
Good news to report here: GalaxyCon’s new gaming lead has been in direct contact with the Raleigh lodge, and discussions are actively proceeding toward a Pathfinder/Starfinder Society presence at this year’s Raleigh event. Nothing is finalized yet, but this is real progress after weeks of silence. We’ll share confirmation the moment we have it.
We Need Players and GMs β Especially Here
A few lodges are in particular need of additional support right now:
- Mebane, NC β Tables are running but could use more consistent turnout and GMing support.
- Charlotte, NC β A major metro area that deserves more organized play presence.
- Memphis, TN β Western Tennessee organized play needs both players and GMs to stay visible.
- Nashville, TN β Strong potential, needs more regular GM support to grow the schedule.

π Upcoming Events
π² Southern-Fried Gaming Expo 2026
July 31 β August 2, 2026 β The Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel & Convention Center
Good news: Steve H has the AtlantaPFS volunteer schedule for Southern-Fried locked in. No open call right now β just watch the AtlantaPFS Discord for any last-minute updates as the convention approaches.
π DragonCon 2026 β September 3β7 β Volunteers Needed NOW
Five days of organized play, thousands of attendees, and our biggest regional showcase of the year β if we can staff it. Our roster deadline is under two weeks away, and at current sign-up rates roughly 60% of what’s planned won’t happen. Every slot filled changes that number. Sign up here. Right now. Please.
π² Gen Con 2026 β Not Local, But This Year It Really Matters
Gen Con: July 30 β August 2, 2026 β Indiana Convention Center, 100 S. Capitol Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46225
Gen Con isn’t an Appalachian Region event, but this year it’s worth watching closely even from home. Paizo just published its annual rules-change blog (see above) ahead of the new Pathfinder and Starfinder Society program year launching at Gen Con, and this convention is traditionally where Paizo makes its biggest organized play announcements. If Indianapolis is in your summer plans, this is the place to be.

Welcome to organized play! Whether you’re brand new to tabletop RPGs or a veteran player exploring Society play for the first time, we’re here to help you get started.

π² Until Next Week, Pathfinders!
Two big Paizo stories to digest this week β read them straight from the source if you haven’t already. Morgantown keeps racking up convention milestones, and there’s finally real movement on GalaxyCon Raleigh. But none of that changes the bottom line: DragonCon needs you, today, not next week. If you haven’t signed up yet, please stop and do it now.
Southern-Fried’s schedule is locked in β no ask there, just watch the Discord for updates. Gen Con is under two weeks out, and with this year’s rules changes already public, it’s shaping up to be a big one even if you’re not attending.
Watch the GeorgiaPFS Discord and the Warhorn agenda for additions and changes throughout the week. Roll well, friends β we’ll see you out there. βοΈπ²
