AtlantaPFS Weekly Update
🎲 July 26 – August 1 — Welcome Back, Pathfinders!
Good news on the Paizo front this week: after a wave of community feedback, Paizo and Archives of Nethys have walked back several of the harsher changes from last week’s announcement — details below. We’ve also got an update to pass along about Playthrough, a convention some of you may know from the Raleigh area. And with Southern-Fried Gaming Expo and Gen Con both landing next weekend, it’s a big one for the hobby even beyond our own tables.
But first, as always this month: DragonCon sign-ups close this week. Please read the next section before anything else.
🐉 THE ROSTER CLOSES JULY 31.
Volunteer sign-ups for DragonCon 2026 close on July 31. We are currently on pace to cancel roughly 46% of our tentative schedule — down from last week, thanks to everyone who’s signed up so far, but still nearly half our planned tables. Once the roster is submitted, whatever isn’t filled gets cut for good.
If you’ve been meaning to sign up, this is the week. A five-minute form now is the difference between a table happening in September and a table getting cut.
🐉 Sign Up Now — Roster Closes July 31 🐉🚨 An Update on Archives of Nethys
📣 Paizo & Archives of Nethys Reach a New Agreement
Last week’s news about the end of the Paizo/AoN commercial license drew a lot of community concern — and it worked. Paizo and Archives of Nethys have now announced a revised arrangement that walks back several of the harsher changes:
- AoN remains the official rules archive for Pathfinder and Starfinder, now under a less formal agreement that also removes the royalty-reporting requirement that had been a sticking point.
- AoN will keep receiving new-book PDFs ahead of street date, on the same schedule Paizo gives its own staff and freelancers — not as early as the old printer-file access, but the AoN team is optimistic new content can keep going up with minimal delay.
- The legacy Pathfinder First Edition PRD mirror (legacy.aonprd.com) is staying up after all — it is not being retired.
- Non-CUP-compliant art still came down as planned, but Paizo says more art is headed into the Community Use Policy soon, which should expand what AoN (and other CUP creators) can use.
- Expected lore/flavor text changes on AoN are described as minimal, if any are needed at all.
The statement was posted jointly by both sides: Paizo’s follow-up blog post and Archives of Nethys’s own page carry the same message.
🎮 An Update on Playthrough 2026
Passed along from the Raleigh lodge: Playthrough, the developer-focused gaming showcase some of our members have attended, won’t be running in 2026. The organizers say it’s a small team working around day jobs and family life, and one of their own families just welcomed a new baby — so rather than rush out another show before they’re ready, they’re taking the year to make the next one better. They’re not going anywhere: they’re inviting the community to keep hanging out and discovering new games together on their Discord in the meantime, and they’re asking for feedback on what makes the show worth attending. They’re aiming to be back in 2027.
📢 Current Announcements & Updates
🙏 A Quick Apology, Still in Effect
We’re still working to get our Warhorn postings back to a full two-week lead time for sign-ups. We know short notice makes it harder to plan around work and family, and we appreciate your patience while we tighten up our internal process. Thank you for continuing to jump in when you’re able.
⚠️ Tomorrow’s Titan Games & Comics Game — Tentative
Sunday’s scheduled game at Titan Games & Comics (SFS2 1-07: Seize and Destroy, 12:00–4:00 PM) is tentative. A real-life scheduling situation may force a last-minute cancellation. Please check the AtlantaPFS Discord before you head out, and thank you for your flexibility.
🖥️ Fantasy Grounds Unity: Scheduled All the Way Through November
Quick reminder for our VTT players: the Starfinder Society Fantasy Grounds Unity schedule keeps rolling all the way through November.
Seats are filling up quickly. If you’ve been meaning to jump in, now is the time to grab a spot before the good slots are gone. Sign-ups for FGU games specifically are on Warhorn here.
🎲 Southern-Fried Gaming Expo — Next Weekend!
July 31 – August 2, 2026 – The Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel & Convention Center
It’s almost here! Steve H has the AtlantaPFS volunteer schedule locked in, and our tables are ready to go. Recruiting is closed at this point — thank you to everyone who signed up — so the only thing left to do is show up and have a great time. Watch the AtlantaPFS Discord for any last-minute updates as the weekend approaches.
🎲 Gen Con — Also Next Weekend!
Gen Con: July 30 – August 2, 2026 — Indiana Convention Center, 100 S. Capitol Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46225
Gen Con lands the same weekend as Southern-Fried, and this year it matters even if you’re staying home: the new Pathfinder and Starfinder Society program year launches there, right on the heels of this year’s rules-change blog. If you’re headed to Indianapolis, this is the place to be — and if you’re not, watch paizo.com/blog for whatever comes out of it.
🐉 DragonCon — Roster Closes July 31
🐉 DragonCon 2026 — Sign-Ups Close July 31
DragonCon 2026: September 3–7, 2026 — Labor Day Weekend, Atlanta, GA
We’re down to roughly 46% of our tentative schedule still at risk of cancellation — real progress from where we started, thanks to everyone who’s already signed up. But that still means nearly half our planned tables, including parts of the Battle of Hellknight Hill cinematic run, are not yet locked in. The volunteer roster closes on July 31 — that’s this Friday.
- GMs — for regular scenarios, the Battle of Hellknight Hill special, and everything in between
- HQ Staff — the backbone of the operation; without you, nothing else works
- Anyone who can give even one or two slots — every commitment saves a table from being cut

🎬 Rocky Horror Picture Show Night – Poll Still Open!
We’re still collecting availability for our AtlantaPFS outing to The Rocky Horror Picture Show at The Plaza Theatre on Ponce de Leon Avenue. If you haven’t filled out the poll yet, please do — more responses means a better date for everyone. We’re personally leaning toward October once the dust from DragonCon has settled, but all input is welcome.

This social event is open to the wider GeorgiaPFS and Appalachian Region community. Costumes and callbacks are strongly encouraged.

🎉 Morgantown Gearing Up for WVPopCon
Fresh off CharCon, the Morgantown, WV lodge is preparing for its next convention appearance at WVPopCon, August 22–23 at Mylan Park in Morgantown. The lodge could still use more regular GMs and players at its home venue, Wyvern’s Wargames. Reach out to Joel H or through the GeorgiaPFS Discord if you can help.
Urgent: Venture-Officer Opening in Charleston, WV
We are still actively recruiting to establish a brand-new lodge in the Charleston, WV area. Help build something new and be the reason a whole community of players finds organized play. Interested? Reach out through the GeorgiaPFS Discord or at rvcapparegionop@gmail.com.
📋 GalaxyCon Raleigh — Still in Discussion
Conversations between GalaxyCon’s gaming lead and the Raleigh lodge remain ongoing. Nothing new to report this week, but nothing has fallen through either — we’ll share confirmation the moment we have it.
We Need Players and GMs — Especially Here
A few lodges are in particular need of additional support right now:
- Mebane, NC – Tables are running but could use more consistent turnout and GMing support.
- Charlotte, NC – A major metro area that deserves more organized play presence.
- Memphis, TN – Western Tennessee organized play needs both players and GMs to stay visible.
- Nashville, TN – Strong potential, needs more regular GM support to grow the schedule.

🎲 Until Next Week, Pathfinders!
Good news on the Paizo/AoN front this week — the community made itself heard, and Paizo and AoN listened. We’ve also got a heads-up about Playthrough taking a year off to rebuild, and both Southern-Fried and Gen Con are here next weekend. But the headline is still DragonCon: the volunteer roster closes July 31. If you’ve been meaning to sign up, please do it today.
Sunday’s Titan Games & Comics game is tentative — watch Discord for updates. Watch the GeorgiaPFS Discord and the Warhorn agenda for additions and changes throughout the week. Roll well, friends — we’ll see you out there. ⚔️🎲
