Volunteer Updates

If you're receiving this newsletter, you've signed up as a volunteer for either game days or conventions and special events with AtlantaPFS. I opted to do this in a newsletter format which means you've been subscribed to it via your submission of the Volunteer Form, however, this is not going to be a frequent newsletter, only being utilized for communication for volunteer coordination. If you wish to unsubscribe from the newsletter list, there is an unsubscribe link at the bottom.

First off, I want to take a moment to thank you all for having volunteered your time with us. We can't do this without you, and I wanted to make sure you knew your time and efforts are appreciated.

I also wanted to provide an update on the data we collect and store. After discussion with one of the other Venture-Officers, I've switched off all fields for addresses save for the city and state and have deleted your home addresses already submitted from the collected data. Truth be told, unless I'm sending you something personally, I won't need that information from you to be a volunteer.

I opted to keep the city and state only because, as we possibly look to expand our footprint, I want to see who we have available in the area we're looking. I also kept the t-shirt size since there's always even a remote possibility we'll get volunteer t-shirts from Paizo again and want to be able to give those to them if they bring those back.

The back end database for the volunteer form has been shared with the Venture-Officers so they have access to see who has signed up as available either for game days at the venues where they coordinate for us, or for those who are coordinating activities at local conventions and small events. Venture-Officers should be reaching out to each of you to talk about your participation at either game days or conventions.

We are continuing the use of RPGChronicles for sign-in sheets and chronicle generation/delivery for our events. If GMs want to use paper chronicles, they are free to do so, but we will not be printing chronicle sheets en masse for distribution at conventions. This makes reporting on the Paizo site quicker and easier and it provides a way for players to have their chronicles electronically so they can show them for justification for character changes in the event of a question.

If you haven't yet seen or heard the news, the developer of the Warhorn site is stepping away from the project and the site could be shut down. He has been in discussion with another developer to possibly take over the project, and there has been other discussion of a non-profit possibly taking it over, but there is no firm commitment from anyone that I have yet seen to take this on and continue the work. The current information is that the site could cease to exist by mid-June. To prepare for it possibly no longer being available as a scheduling tool for our game day and convention/small event use, alternative options are being explored. Since Game Day GM sign-ups as well as player sign-ups are currently managed via Warhorn for AtlantaPFS, I wanted to make certain you were all aware.

So, what's coming up next? You'll notice that there's a lot more information about DragonCon than the other events below. For the next update, I hope to have more information from the Venture-Officers planning them, but, since I am planning DragonCon, I have all the information on it.

  • MomoCon
    • May 24-27
    • PFS2 & SFS1
    • Volunteers both for GM and HQ positions are still being accepted.
      • MomoCon volunteering requires signing up via both Eventeny and a specific additional sign-up sheet for RPGs.
    • Both PFS2 and SFS1 interactive specials are planned for MomoCon.
    • Scheduling done via Warhorn (MomoCon managed)
  • Southern-Fried Gaming Expo
    • July 19 - 21
    • Georgia World Congress Center, Atlanta
    • PFS2 & SFS1
    • Volunteers are being "staged" for both GM and HQ positions.
      • There has not been any communication from SFGE leadership yet (to my knowledge), so we are staging volunteers only at this point without having a commitment.
      • To volunteer for SFGE, you would need to sign-up on their website and the rest comes through us.
        • We have historically been responsible for putting our schedule out on Warhorn and using it for GM/Player sign-ups, however, with the public notice that Warhorn may be shutting down, this year may need to be handled differently.
    • Interactive specials are not currently part of the plan for SFGE, but that could change.
    • Scheduling done via Warhorn (AtlantaPFS managed)
  • DragonCon
    • August 29 - September 4
    • PFS1, PFS2, SFS1, & SFS2 Playtest
    • AmericasMart Building 3, Atlanta
    • Remember, you only need to sign up on the Eventeny site for DragonCon if your intention is to run 5 or more game slots as they only use Eventeny as a way to track who is eligible for a free badge.
    • Scheduling done via DragonCon site (DragonCon managed)
    • Volunteers are being staged for GM, HQ, and HQ GM positions. There are "big plans" for DragonCon.
      • I've requested Premier status for DragonCon and it has been granted. That makes it eligible for Paizo to possibly send someone (if approved and if the budget is there). If they do send someone, I've requested it be someone who can speak to both PFS2 and SFS2 (and who can possibly run an author/dev table or two).
      • We will be participating in the DragonCon charity drive this year. This year's charity partner is the Arthritis Foundation. I will be asking for charity boons for auction and we will have "tip jars" with a price list at each table for what a player can access with a charity donation. HQ will collect these to turn in to DragonCon leadership at the end of each session.
      • I am attempting to get us audio-visual support from DragonCon for the interactive specials, but have not received a response on that front.
      • I am also attempting to add some virtual tables to both help our table counts and to give the virtual community an opportunity to experience the games they are missing out on since Gen Con has shelved their virtual component.
      • We are going to have a character creation station set up at or near the HQ desk. With Pathfinder Player Core 2 being released at the beginning of August, being able to talk through anything released in this book will be needed. Whether this becomes a scheduled "programming feature" or not is TBD.
      • DragonCon leadership asked that we share the quest/bounty pool with DDAL. Currently, those players wishing a short adventure pool over near the escalator in Mart 3, and only DDAL has been engaging with them to pull them in for their quest offerings. Beginning this year, that is going to change. I want to be able to schedule GM HQ (or on-call GMs) who can pick up a table or two of quests in each time slot throughout the convention. I am torn on whether to include SFS1 Bounties/Quests as part of the offering here simply because the system is being sunset, so I am leaning heavily against its inclusion.
      • For SFS2, there will be at least 2 (already announced) quests available to run (there may be a 3rd, timing dependent). The announced quests are at levels 1 and 5 respectively. There is no word on whether there will be pregens available or if these should be player created characters for the playtest. The only qualification for running SFS2 is a familiarity with the PFS2 game engine since the core will be the same, but there will be some differences. Even though these are quests (1-2 hours each), they will be on the schedule vs. a first come/first served walkup and shared pool of players.
      • Just like last year, PFS1 will be offered (1 table per time slot). The ask last year was to have games in the levels 5-9 range run (this ask came from DragonCon leadership). Scenarios and level ranges are TBD, but more to come on that as we get closer to the convention.
  • Multiverse
    • October 18 - 20
    • PFS2, SFS1, SFS2 Playtest
    • Hilton, Peachtree City
    • Registration as a volunteer will also require signing up on the Multiverse website
    • This will be treated as an acquisition event.
      • We will not be scheduling any games, basing if/when we run a quest or bounty on when we have enough player interest.
      • Volunteers will man an "HQ" until needed to run game sessions or to help with character creation/questions.
      • I am considering character creation workshops for both PFS2 and SFS2 to be on the schedule, but that decision will come later.
